What we offer at Act Up Drama School
Working mostly in schools, but also from her home studio in Ngaruawahia, Tess Fleming teaches the New Zealand Speech Board syllabus. Students enjoy classes in public speaking, oration, and drama/theatre. Most classes are taught in small groups, though solo classes can be arranged by request.
This is where you can buy Tess's Drama Textbooks "Sit Down Drama" and "Sit Down Drama: Character Development". Look out for further books in this series that support drama teachers and students across New Zealand.
If you are interested in improving the presentation and confidence skills of your team, get in contact with Tess about a workshop she can tailor to your needs.
Tess also offers workshops for teachers wishing to upskill their drama knowledge for the Theatre in Action syllbus of NZSB
Tess Fleming has been teaching Drama since 2004. She loves the theatre in all its shapes and forms, but especially dramatic works. Tess studied Speech and Drama with Pam Moore in Rotorua, and then carried on to study Drama and Teaching at The University of Waikato. After completing her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Teaching Tess taught high school drama at Sacred Heart Girls College and Bali International School, teaching both the NZ curriculum including NCEA and the International Baccalaureate.
Tess has been involved in various productions with amateur theatrical societies in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, but has spent most of her Drama experience directing plays within the schools she has taught in. As well as creating stunning school shows, Tess has also won awards for her directing of Shakespeare and has supported some winning pieces of Stage Challenge.
Tess took a break from theatre when her children were born, but has since returned to work with small groups in Ngaruawahia. While she had small children at home Tess wrote her Drama theory books, the Sit Down Drama series. Tess now returns to her roots with Speech and Drama, establishing Act Up Drama School in 2019, she hopes to build a strong school in our growing community.
